This Ithaca New Classic Doubles 7E is one of the very scarce high-grade doubles built in Victor, New York during Ithaca Classic Doubles’ short production run. Built as a modern homage to the legendary Ithaca NID, the 7E was the top standard grade, featuring full coverage hand engraving, vivid bone-charcoal case colors, and inlaid gold game birds. This 20 gauge example, serial number 471224, wears 28" barrels with 3" chambers and is engraved and signed by master engraver J. Jones, whose work is instantly recognizable to serious collectors.
The receiver shows deep, full-coverage scroll and leaf engraving over brilliant case colors, with multiple inlaid gold bird motifs on the sides and underside. The trigger guard and tang continue the theme with gold inlays and fine scroll. The stock and forend are cut from highly figured walnut and feature elegant fleur-de-lis style accents and sharp checkering that frame the action beautifully. Stock dimensions are 14 3/4" length of pull, 1 1/2" drop at comb, 2 1/2" drop at heel, with approximately 1/8" cast off – a very shootable field and clays profile.
The 28" barrels are built on a solid concave matted rib with a traditional front bead. Chokes are fixed Cylinder and Improved Cylinder, a perfect upland and sporting combination in a 20 gauge gun. Chambers are 3". The gun is configured with double triggers and automatic safety, and is fitted with ejectors as you would expect on a top-grade 7E. Overall condition is excellent, with strong blue and case colors, crisp engraving, clean bores, and only minor evidence of careful use.
Included with the gun is a high-quality leather leg-o-mutton case that complements the classic look and makes this a complete, ready-to-travel upland package. Between the scarce 7E grade, 20 gauge configuration, master-level Geoffrey Gournet engraving, and overall condition, this is a highly desirable modern Ithaca double for the serious side-by-side enthusiast or collector who appreciates best-quality American-inspired craftsmanship.
