Here is a Scarse French Berthier Carbine Model 1892 manufactured by Châtellerault one of the government state arsenal factory. It's an Antique NO FFL it was manufactured in 1892 in approximatively less than 200,000. It’s chambered in 8mmx 50R Lebel the best, efficient & first smokless caliber best ballistic at the time. 18.1/2" barrel with a good & shinning bore with sharp rifling slightly grainy in the groove. All these Berthier Model 1892 were for Cavalry Model 1890 Berthier which had no need of a bayonet lug (Mounted troop had a full size saber). Then in 1892 came out the Berthier Artillery Carbine Model 1892, so most of the 1890 were issued to the Arttillery and the Infantry modified by adding a bayonet lug like the M1892. Often serial numbers "55103" are not matching on the receiver the bolt, different onthe barrel as it, these French military rifles served over 90 years in many wars & conflicts, all parts were manufactured in the 5 main French Gov. Arsenal/factories with great identical specifications to be inter-changeable. Scarcely found these Berthier Carbine Model 1892 as an Antique. The original factory finish rates 80% with rare pin-prick erosion. The action is firm and smooth. No import mark. Those short and light carbines were favored by the infantery, rangers, reconnaisance chasseurs à pied, going from trenches, leaping over craters and holes, being more practical, easier to carry than the long and heavy Lebel 86 or Berthier 1907-15. It's a real collector piece of history in antique pre-1898 as it was produced in 1895 as is the 131years ago. In 1916 the Battle/Siege of Verdun which lasted 10 months and made 700,000 victims, 163,000 French & 143,000 Germans and 410,000 wounded on both sides. The approximative total of the WWI militaries and civilians togather were 9,000,000 killed & 200,000 wounded. I described it to the best of my knowledge. Ammunitions and accessories showed on one of the picture are not for sale. What is not written on the description would be on the pictures. Please don't ask for extra pictures.
