Beretta-made shotguns are highly thought of in just about any shooting circles that involve shotguns. The 682 Gold Skeet was originally introduced in 1984 as a high-grade, skeet and sporting clays over-under. It featured light hand engraving on the receiver, trigger guard, the upper barrel, and forearm latch. The Beretta name and the model of the shotgun are neatly engraved on the underside of the action and lightly inlaid with gold. Below, in a similar fashion, are the Beretta symbol and an Italian laurel. The name “P. Beretta” is engraved on the left and right of the receiver and inlaid with gold as well. As is usually the case with Beretta shotguns, the 682 Gold Skeet has the barrel length stamped on the upper barrel. In this case it is 28 inches. Both the fore end and stock are made of premium walnut and feature checkering. The forend is of the beavertail type. The stock exhibits handling wear with many minor dings. Please see the pictures. There is a small hairline crack on the left hand side near the safety. The forend only exhibits minor handling wear. There is a small amount of finish wear on the left side of the barrel. The third arch of the rib is bent downward. This is not a difficult thing to fix, as a wooden wedge and leather mallet move the rib back to the original position. The front sight bead is a tad loose. The rubber pad is well fitted to the gun, and thankfully, is of the solid type rather than the weaker vent type. The bores are spotless. The 682 Gold uses the Mobil-choke system. This 682 Gold Skeet comes with a plethora of chokes. For the 12 gauge are 2 Skeet (SK), 2 Cylinder (CYL), 2 Improved Cylinder (IC), 2 Light Modified (LM or LMOD), 1 Modified (M), 1 Improved Modified (IMOD), and 1 Full (F) for a total of 11. For the 20 gauge are 2 extended Improved Cylinder, 1 extended Modified, 2 Improved Skeet (IMSK), and 2 Light Skeet (LSK) for a total of 7. For the 28 gauge are 2 Improved Skeet and 2 Light Skeet for a total of 4. Finally, for the .410 bore are 2 Skeet and 2 Improved Skeet (marked SK-I rather than IMSK) for a total of 4. The 682 Gold has a single gold trigger and the barrel to be fired is selected using the center button on the safety. When selecting which barrel you want to shoot first, pushing the button to the right selects the over barrel, while pushing it to the left selects the under barrel. You do NOT have to move the selector after the first shot as the recoil from the first shot will set the trigger to fire the second shot. The ejectors work just fine. There is an excellent metal case made by Americase. There are a few tools present, especially choke removal tools covering the 12, 20, 28, and .410 chokes. With as many options as this 682 Gold comes with, it would make the perfect O/U for anyone who wants a shotgun that can do it all.
