This is a cased two line Hartford address Civil War Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver manufactured in 1862. It comes in an original Colt velvet lined mahogany box with an original Colt powder flask / original Colt iron bullet mold / Eley Brothers percussion cap tin partially full / and a spare non-matching numbered cylinder. The revolver remains in fine condition with the barrel and cylinder showing about 30-35% of the original blue finish flaking to pewter-gray with a crisp two line address marking the top facet and sharp detail on the Wagon Scene engraving. The address shows the broken die for the "L" in Colt and appears as "COIT" which is correct for this serial number range according to Jordan & Watt in Colt's Pocket '49. The frame shows virtually all of the vibrant case-colors with the hammer and lever faded with more muted color. The trigger and some screw heads show the original vibrant nitre blue. The gripstraps have retained much, 80-85% of the original silver finish with some areas worn to the original brass. The walnut grips rate about excellent with minor handling marks and a later added linseed oil finish. The action functions properly with tight lock up and smooth action. The original mahogany box with purplish interior shows an old repaired split along the top front edge and is otherwise in fine condition. The flash has a small dent on the front bottom right with a larger on the right wing of the bird on the back. The bullet mold is well marked "Colt's Patent" showing old tool marks and other signs of moderate use. The "spare" cylinder is from an early 6 shot pocket revolver with serial #1773 and shows good detail in the Wagon Scene with some of the original bluing present. A great looking cased Pocket '49 in fine overall condition. Antique Price: $4,495.00 Antique: Yes |
