Description:
This Colt percussion revolver was manufactured in 1863 during the Civil War. This pistol may have shipped with an un-numbered wedge and cylinder or  they may have been replaced early in its life as the cylynder scene and patina match the overall condition. The barrel, frame, trigger guard and backstrap have matching serial numbers. The grip is tight on the backstrap, so I didn’t risk pulling it apart to check the grips serial number. The grips cartouche is long gone and notches have been added at some point. Interesting history lost to time.
Several military inspectors’ marks remain. Peter V. Hagner was assigned to Colts as the inspector during this production period. His “H” marks are clearly visible on the backstrap behind the hammer and on the bottom of the trigger guard behind the bow.
It appears to have been a “Brown” gun that was cleaned many years ago. Today it has returned to a pleasing uniform gray color with a mellow mustard color trigger guard.
It remains fully functional, the cylinder advances properly and locks up tight. The hammer locks on both half and full cock. The bore is very nice, strong rifling with dark finish and no pitting or corrosion.
Overall, this is a very nice example of a Civil War era Colt that would be a nice example for all but the most expensive collections.
          Serial Number 132000, .44 Cal. Percussion with a 7 ½”  Barrel.
