Description:
The WW2 German Mauser 98k (Karabiner 98k) was the standard service rifle used by the German Wehrmacht from the late 1930s through WW2 and its end in 1945; it was one
of the final developments in the long line of Mauser military rifles. Eleven years in production, produced over 14 million K98's (as they were called), and out of the 14 million produced,
there were over 100 combinations of 'maker' codes and production years. All of this combined with the fact that the Mauser 98k was and still is, one of the best bolt-action rifle designs of all time, effectively making it one of the most desirable and collectible rifles of the WWII era, and maybe even of all time?
It's"byf" maker code signifies production by Mauser-Werke AG, Oberndorf factory of Nekar, Germany (who was the only one allowed to produce the rifle), and its manufacturer date: 41 - 45.
Known for its rugged strength, reliability and 'soldier-proof' durability, with its 5-round internal magazine, curved bolt, and solid accuracy.

Chambered in  7.92×57mm Mauser (designated as the 8mm Mauser or 8×57mm by the SAAMI and 8 × 57 IS by the C.I.P.) is a rimless bottlenecked rifle cartridge; adopted by the German Empire in 1903–1905, and was the German service cartridge in both World Wars through 1945. In fact, during the first half of the 20th century, the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge was one of the world's most popular military cartridges and soon after, in the 21st century, it is still a popular civilian "Sport and Hunting" cartridge.

Please note, this amazing rifle and piece of history, has been "Sporterized" at some point in its life. As best as can be determine, somewhere between the 1950s and 1960s?  The  process was nicely done and the original numbers are still matching and the rifle very usuable. It does not have its original bayonet or cleaning rod.

A great rifle nonetheless!! and perfect for your collection!
