Description:
COLT NEW NAVY REVOLVER MODEL OF 1889/1895
This revolver was one of the US Navy’s First Contact Models in 1889. It is marked on the butt in the prescribed manner with the “US (anchor)”, serial # 1333 and “1889” denoting year of production. The initials “W.W.K” are those of Lieutenant William W. Kimball, who inspected and tested revolvers for the Navy. The lower left grip bears the cartouche “NCT/1896” for Ensign Nathan C. Twining.
The included factory letter notes the revolver was “originally manufactured as a Model 1889 Nary revolver, however, the original shipping records for this revolver were lost or destroyed many years ago”. The factory records “reflect this revolver's return to the factory for conversion to the Model of 1895 specifications, refinishing, and subsequent reshipment to the United States Government.” This subsequent shipment occurred on March 9, 1896.
This revolver is in very good condition and functions great mechanically. Original blue refinish from 1896. Bore is very good with sharp rifling. Numbers match. Both grips are good with average wear. Clear cartouche on left grip. Please see all photos.
