Description:
Offered for sale is a fair example of a very hard to find pistol, the Colt Service Model Ace.  This model was the most expensive pistol that Colt sold costing about $60, that's $20 more than a .45 at the time.  They had hand honed match grade actions and were equal to the National Match and Super Match's.  The early guns like this one had a unique roll mark which was essentially the standard ACE roll mark with the words "Service" and "Model" added.  At around SN SM 700 the model got its own roll markings.
First model Service Aces like this are very rare.  Most were shipped to the US Military. Many were known to have been issued to the US Navy and are  certainly lost at sea during WW2.
This pistol is one of the only 500 that were shipped commercially.  Factory letter is on order and will show commercial shipment in 1938.
This example would be a good candidate for a Turnbull quality restoration.  The pistol is complete with all original parts, grips, matching serial numbered slide and early correct magazine.  A rare gun!
