Description: Here is a genuine, untouched Civil War-era Parker Snow & Co. percussion musket, manufactured in Meriden, Connecticut and dated 1862 on the lockplate. These rifles were produced under Massachusetts militia contracts at the opening of the war and follow the general pattern of the U.S. Model 1861. This example remains in original, as-found condition with an attractive, even patina throughout. The lockplate is clearly marked with the 1862 date, the eagle motif, and the full Parker Snow & Co. Meriden, CT stamp. The wood is solid with no structural cracks, showing the expected handling wear and age appropriate for a 160 year old battlefield era long gun. Mechanically, the hammer holds on both notches, and the action functions, though-as with all antique percussion arms-professional inspection is recommended prior to any attempt at firing. Metal surfaces show scattered pitting and brown patina from honest service and age. The full-length barrel, stock, and furniture appear original and unmodified. A great representative example of an early war militia contract musket from a desirable maker, perfect for a collector of Civil War arms or anyone seeking a historically significant display piece.
