Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Policed Marked Semi-Automatic P.08 German Luger Pistol, made circa the mid-1920s to the mid-1930s likely in Berlin, Germany. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars.
This example has “Crown/N” commercial proofs. It has the German Police marking “L. Hi. 125.” on the frontstrap. The Crown over N is a German pre-World War II commercial proof mark used before April 1, 1940.
The overall condition is good. This example has been refinished. Strong action. The bore is bright with crisp rifling. Faint “eagle/WaA66” and “crown/N” proof marks. Visible numbers match. Non-matching magazine. Sharply checkering grips, remains in good shape with light handling wear. The action does not hold open with the included magazine.
