This is a large pistol that would have been a formidable sidearm, but also an ornate status symbol. It features a large Damascus twist barrel, the bell of which measures 1-3/8”. It is inlaid with silver on top. The lock is engraved and bears the name of the maker within the cartouche as well as his city. The stock has been carved with a foliate design down the back of the grip, with checkering and a teardrop inset of brass. Foliate wire designs have been done throughout the rest of the stock. The ramrod is made of ivory and is just for show as this was the case for guns of this vintage in this part of the world. The carrier would have a more substantial rammer he carried on his person, many times on a lanyard, which was a most sensible thing to do. Zahlé, known as “the City of Wine & Poetry”, lies in Eastern Lebanon, and it was established by Christians in the 18th Century. It historically controlled much of the agricultural trade of the country, including wine grapes, grain, and livestock, and was near the road that connected Beirut to Damascus. The Berdawni River runs through and is lined with shops and cafes and has long been a central part of the city. It is likely along this river where the maker of this pistol had his shop. The overall condition is fine. Fantastic Damascus pattern on the barrel with silver inlays on top. The action is functional, very strong spring tension. The bore is dim and smooth. The stock is solid with wire inlay throughout. This is a one of a kind piece! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8-3/8 inches. Caliber: Approximately .70 flaring to 1-3/8 inches. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
