Description:
CAPONE CONVERSION of a COLT FRONTIER SIX-SHOOTER Revolver .22 SAA C&R 5.5”

Custom Single Action Army by the Owner of King’s Gun Works

Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Colt Frontier Six-Shooter Single Action Army Revolver, made in 1900 in Hartford, Connecticut, originally chambered in .44-40 WCF which was converted to .22 Rimfire. It was converted by Arnold Capone, one of the owners of King’s Gun Works in California, in a very unique way that utilized original parts such as the barrel and cylinder to preserve even the aesthetic of full-sized cylinder chambers. This latter aspect of the gun is perhaps the most distinctive attribute. Rather than the cylinder being sleeved through its entire length, the cylinder was cut so that the front third maintained .44 caliber apertures, while the remaining two-thirds was sleeved. The sleeved portion revolves as normal, while the front third is stationary. The primary effect is that the gun appears to be in its original .44 chambering if you are on the wrong end of it! A secondary effect is that the gun is slightly lighter than it would otherwise be, which is of some importance since these guns are solid steel and sleeving from .44 to .22 adds significantly to the weight. In addition to this imaginative conversion, this piece has upgraded front and rear sights, and the grips are custom maple with the initials “UD”, made by Jerry Crow for Ura “Duke” Duvall, who was brother in law to Arnold Capone and a collector. The This revolver was featured on the cover of Gun World in January of 1963, of which a copy is included with this revolver.

The overall condition is fine. Finely re-finished at the time of conversion with a case colored frame and hammer with polished blue barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and grip frame. Fine hand-checkered maple grips with the initial inlay. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. Markings are sharp. This is a work of art performed by a master of his craft!
