Description:
The Ruger Standard Model pistol was introduced in 1949 as Sturm, Ruger & Company's first-ever product. Its design was based on the Japanese Nambu military pistol that Bill Ruger had seen and admired. He acquired two of the Nambus from a Marine veteran who had brought them back from the Pacific Theater after WWII. Bill set to work in his shop and designed the Standard Model pistol in .22 long rifle. Then he partnered with Alexander Sturm, who financed the start-up company. The pistol was a success and was produced until it was replaced by the updated Ruger Mark II in 1982. This one for sale here is from 1976 and has Ruger's salute to the Bicentennial roll marked on top: "MADE IN THE 200TH YEAR OF AMERICAN LIBERTY". It is in excellent condition, showing very little wear on the steel or the wood. The action is smooth and the bore is clean and bright. It comes with two magazines, but no box or case. .22 Long Rifle
