John Moses Browning’s famous pistol was adopted by the U.S. government in 1911 and attained iconic status throughout both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and beyond. This one was made just before the start of The Great War. The Colt M1911 series of pistols is widely regarded as one of the most successful small arms designs of the 20th century and a significant weapon in modern warfare history. Manufactured extensively in the United States, Argentina, and Norway under licensed versions known as the M1914 and M1927 respectively, this handgun saw service in both World Wars and numerous other major and minor conflicts throughout the century. Its durability and reliability contributed to its commercial success for Colt. Today, the M1911 remains in various forms of service and continues to be a popular choice among sport shooters, security personnel, and firearm enthusiasts worldwide.
