Description:
About .69/.70 cal, 31 1/2” barrel with an oxidized bore. This musket appears to be original flint with metal surfaces mostly toned to a mix of gunmetal and gray-brown patina showing some scattered light pitting and oxidation. The cock may be an antique replacement as it shows more pitting overall than the other components. The lock is unmarked beyond a small crown proof and the barrel with a large “TC 82” left of breech. The walnut stock rates good showing moderate wear at the tip which has a number of repaired cracks and chips resulting in the front band being rather ill-fitting. There are some other scattered dings and handling marks, the left side of the buttstock with concave cheekpiece along with a faded script cartouche on the right and “TC” stamp on the left. A replacement brass-tipped iron ramrod is present and the lock is crisp and seems to function normally.These were used by French naval Marines up in the ship's rigging to snipe at a naval oponnents deck and tryimng to take out the lead gunner or ships captian.
