Offered is a highly significant Colt Model of 1911 U.S. Army pistol manufactured in January 1945, during the final months of World War II, and documented as part of the U.S. Lend-Lease program supplied to Great Britain. Pistols produced under Lend-Lease contracts occupy a distinct and highly collectible niche within U.S. martial arms, representing America’s direct material support of Allied forces during the war.
This example features the correct 5-inch barrel, the standard service length for the Model of 1911 and a defining characteristic of the design. The pistol is further distinguished by matching British proof marks on the slide, frame, and barrel, conclusively indicating acceptance and inspection for British service. Fully matching proofed examples are increasingly scarce, as many Lend-Lease pistols were later rebuilt or had components intermixed during postwar service.
The pistol retains the correct thick Parko-Ludite parkerized finish characteristic of late-war Colt production. This durable wartime finish was intended to withstand harsh service conditions and is a key identifying feature of pistols produced in 1944–1945.
