Description:
Offered is a highly desirable and completely original Colt Bisley Single Action Army revolver, manufactured in 1907 and shipped in September of that year to Lee Glass, Andreesen Hardware Company, Nebraska. This revolver represents an excellent and honest example of Colt’s Bisley-pattern Single Action Army—an important variant developed specifically for target shooting and competitive use at the turn of the 20th century.
Introduced in 1894, the Bisley model differed from the standard Single Action Army through its distinctive grip frame, lower-profile hammer, and reshaped trigger—features intended to improve control and ergonomics for deliberate, precision shooting. While never produced in the same numbers as the standard SAA, the Bisley gained a strong following among serious marksmen, making surviving original examples increasingly sought after by collectors today.
This revolver is chambered in the classic .32-20 Winchester Center Fire (.32 WCF), a highly desirable period cartridge valued for its accuracy, mild recoil, and versatility. The .32-20 chambering is particularly well-suited to the Bisley configuration and remains one of the more collectible calibers within the Bisley production spectrum.
Of special note is the 4¾-inch barrel, one of the most desirable barrel lengths offered on the Bisley model. Short-barreled Bisleys are significantly scarcer than their longer-barreled counterparts and are prized for their balance, handling characteristics, and overall collector appeal.
The revolver remains completely original and unaltered, a critical distinction for serious collectors. Condition is very good overall, showing honest bluing and finish wear consistent with age and careful use. Despite this wear, the revolver retains excellent cosmetic presence with crisp markings, pleasing surfaces, and strong wood-to-metal fit. Mechanically, the revolver is excellent, functioning exactly as intended and exhibiting the correct and desirable four distinct clicks to the hammer—an unmistakable hallmark of original Colt Single Action Army lockwork.
Factory documentation confirms manufacture in 1907 and shipment in September to Lee Glass at Andreesen Hardware Company. Hardware-store shipments are characteristic of Colt’s commercial distribution network during this era and firmly place the revolver within the everyday sporting and professional landscape of early-20th-century America. Such shipments are especially appealing to collectors, as they reflect genuine civilian-market sales rather than later secondary movement.
The revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter confirming its original configuration and shipment details. Factory letters add significant confidence and value, particularly for Bisley models, which are closely scrutinized for originality.
Altogether, this is a compelling opportunity to acquire a documented Colt Bisley Single Action Army in a scarce caliber and highly desirable barrel length—an honest, mechanically excellent revolver with strong historical character and unquestioned authenticity. It would make a fine addition to any advanced Colt or early American sporting arms collection.
