Payment Types Accepted: Bank to bank wire transfer (preferred), or bank cashier's check only Description: ***SOLD*** Stunningly beautiful, mint condition Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 .264 Winchester Magnum in Super Grade configuration, and the ONLY one like it that I have ever encountered! S/N 538505 made in 1961. * Please read the following description carefully to help make your own determination as to the plausibility of this very unique rifle. Potential buyers should be reminded or made aware that Winchester discontinued all cataloged Super Grade styles after 1959. (Other than the 458 "African" which, despite being nearly identical was technically not a SG). Therefore, 264 Win Mag rifles were never offered in the Super Grade style during regular production, since the caliber itself was not even available prior to that syle's discontinuation. It is well understood that a limited number of SGs could be and were obtained through special order after 1959, but due to the non existence of factory records, there is no way to positively identify such rifles. Having handled a vast array of premiere grade Model 70s, I can at least guarantee all components of this rifle to be 100% factory original. The buttplate is correctly made of plastic as it would have been in 1961 and has never been altered, with a full LOP of 13 5/8" and no tampering whatsoever (a virtually impossible stock to find or fake). The front sight is a standard bead (not Redfield 255), the action components are not jeweled, nor are there any underbarrel stampings supporting the SG configuration (some or all of these features are known to have been ommitted on the later made, special ordered Super Grades). With all that said, this rifle is simply gorgeous, showing 99% or better condition of both the metal and wood. All finishes are original. The barrel bluing during this particular period was a direct application to the stainless steel, creating a somewhat unique and slightly smokey look. The exceptional wood is beautifully colored and grained. The 26" stainless steel barrel has an excellent bore, and all mechanical functions are likewise excellent. The inside metal and wood appear absolutely crisp and new with a perfect barrel channel showing no cracks or other discrepancies. The factory correct detachable swivels are included. Were it possible to positively confirm the special order status of this fabulous looking rifle, it would easily warrant a 5 digit price tag and beyond, but it is what it is, and I have done my best to describe and photograph it with complete clarity. One thing that you can be practically certain of: Your collector friends won't have one quite like this, nor will they likely ever! Expedited and fully insured shipping from Alaska is an additional $100. Price: $6,750.00 Curio/Relic: Yes |
