ANTIQUE HENRY ASTON, MIDDLETOWN, CONN. MODEL 1842 U.S. MILITARY CONTRACT .54 CALIBER PERCUSSION PISTOL. 8 1/2" BARREL GOOD to VERY GOOD BORE WITH SOME PITTING NEAR THE MUZZLE. METAL SURFACES HAVE BEEN CLEANED BRIGHT LONG AGO SHOWING SCATTERED FINE PINPRICK PITTING AND LOSS OF SOME MARKINGS. LOCK DATED 1847, U.S. IS VISIBLE BUT MAKERS NAME IS NOT DICERNABLE. WALNUT STOCK REMAINS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION SHOWING A FAINT CARTOUCH WITH MARS, DINGS AND WEAR THAT CAN BE SEEN IN PICS. ACTION IS CRISP & ROBUST WITH 2 CLICK HAMMER AND APPEARS SHOOTABLE IF WANTED. MANY OF THESE SAW SERVICE IN THE MEXICAN and EARLY CIVIL WAR. OVERALL A SOLID REASONABLY PRICED EXAMPLE, AS PICTURED & RECENTLY FOUND IN A LOCAL COLLECTION.
