Payment Types Accepted: venmo, check Description: S&W M & P .38 Special "pre-Victory / pre Model 10" Stamped U.S.N.C.P.C. This gun was given to my father in the late 1980s from a friend who was a collector. This friend wanted my father to have it because he said it was stamped "United States Navy Central Pacific Command" and was ordered by the Navy from S&W and issued to US Navy pilots. My father was a USN carrier based fighter pilot in WW2. My father remembered other pilots carrying revolvers with a combination of rounds "birdshot for survival and 38s for japs"; he carried a Browning HP. After some research, now I know this gun is a relatively rare Pre-WW2 U.S. Navy Smith & Wesson Military & Police Revolver marked U.S.N.C.P.C. which stands for the US Navy Civilian Police Corps. These revolvers, (there were 3,000 starting with SN# 748000) were shipped to the United States Naval Yard in Washington DC in a series of boxes in early 1941 and were actually issued to Naval Intelligence officers, and in to regular Naval Service. Some were sent to the RAF and other militaries, intelligence units, and civilian end users. I think this gun can be considered to be a pre-pre-Victory Model and a pre-Model 10. Few of these guns are known to still exist and this is certainly a decent enough example that comes with a Smith & Wesson Factory Letter as well. Certainly it is one of the more desirable US Navy Issue handguns of the WW2 era. This 85 year old gun has been sitting in a drawer for the last 40 years untouched. It still has the chalk from the previous owner, on the serial and assembly #s, and on the stamped U.S.N.C.P.C. I remember shooting a box of ammo through it when we first got it; perfect; as expected. It will easily survive another 85 years like all other Model 10s. The holster is stamped USN and is nothing special, but included in the sale. Price: $2,900.00 |
