Description:
1974 mfr. COLT Single Action “NEW FRONTIER BUNTLINE” .22 RF C&R Revolver
6-ShotTarget Shooter w/ EXTRA .22 MAGNUM CYLINDER
Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Colt New Frontier Buntline Single Action Revolver, made circa 1974 by the Colt Manufacturing Company. Ned Buntline was a New York Times columnist when Wyett Earp was the U.S. Marshall in Tombstone, Arizona. He wrote fictional stories about the exploits of Earp and traveled to Arizona to interview him. Buntline commissioned Colt to build two special Colt Single Action Army “Peacemakers” with Buntline Special engraved on the barrel. He gave one to Earp the other he kept. There is no evidence that Earp actually carried the Buntline Special that was given to him.
The G series Peacemaker .22 and New Frontier .22 revolvers were introduced in 1970, and the first production serial number was G10001. These guns were a major change in Colt's .22 single action revolver line. They more resembled the full-size Single Action Army revolvers because the receivers and loading gates were made of steel and were case hardened in colors. The Peacemaker .22 had fixed sights like the previous Frontier Scouts, but the New Frontier .22 used a ramped front sight and the same adjustable Accro rear sight that was used on many other Colt handguns at the time. All revolvers were marked “.22” on the barrels but were shipped either with the .22 LR cylinder alone or as combinations with .22 LR and .22 Magnum cylinders, as is this example. There were no .22 Magnum-only G series revolvers produced.
The overall condition is fine. Original finishes are preserved. Blued barrel and cylinders, case colored frame, black grip frame. The grips are well preserved showing good definition, remaining in fine shape. Visible markings are clear and legible. The action is robust with crisp hammer clicks. The bore is excellent with sharp rifling. The included magnum cylinder is also fine.
