Description:
First or Second day production 1961 Ruger Deerstalker .44 Carbine wearing an 18.5" barrel, gas operated short stroke piston, hand checkered American Walnut stock, folding rear leaf carbine sights chambered in .44 Remington magnum cartridge holding four in internal rotary mag and one in chamber.Ruger total Deerstalker production approximately 12,000 with this #258 a very early first run production rifle. Overal in excellent to fine original condition showing minor handling marks on wood from being afield in its 65 years. I've always been a fan of the .44 carbine but never found an early model like this. They are the ultimate MN Northwoods Whitetail getter, short light and deadly in heavy brush woods where I find Mr. Buck.
As you may know Ruger use of the model name "Deerstalker" was very short lived due to Ithaca sueing Ruger for infringement. Ruger made the Deerstalker in 1961 and part of 1962 before a name change forced by the Judge. This rifle is a real Gem in any collection and one that can hunt as well.
