Description:
This is a partial box, 33 original rounds, of .30 Auto Pistol ball cartridges for use in the Pedersen Device in 1903 Springfield rifles manufactured by Remington UMC. Built originally for use in WWI trench warfare the device converted the standard issue rifles into semi-automatic ones with 40 round magazines. Most of them were destroyed as they never saw service and the same with the ammunition. The box is marked "40-CAL. 30 AUTO. PISTOL / BALL CARTRIDGES / MODEL OF 1918 / THE REMINGTON ARMS / UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE COMPANY, INC. / BRIDGEPORT, CONN." The cartridges are headstamped "R A 18" and remain in excellent condition. The box is missing one flap with the other detached having a small piece of missing paper on the left corner with edge and corner wear. A rare item for the advanced US Military and WWI collector.
