Description:
The Browning Superposed is one of the most iconic over/under shotguns ever produced, designed by legendary firearms engineer John M. Browning and manufactured in Belgium by FN. Introduced in 1931, the Superposed became renowned for its craftsmanship, durability, and elegant lines, making it a favorite among sportsmen and collectors alike.
Between approximately 1966 and 1971, some Browning Superposed shotguns were affected by the well-documented “salt wood” issue, where improperly cured walnut containing salt caused corrosion to internal metal components. Not all guns from this period were affected, and many—like this example—show no evidence of salt wood damage. Careful inspection of metal-to-wood contact areas on this shotgun reveals no corrosion or deterioration, confirming it as a clean, unaffected specimen from this era.

Description

This Browning Belgium Superposed, manufactured in 1968, is a 12 gauge over/under shotgun finished in classic blued steel and beautifully figured fancy walnut. It is fitted with 30" vented rib barrels, chambered for 3" Magnum shells, and choked FULL / MODIFIED, making it well suited for field, waterfowl, and long-range sporting applications.
The barrels feature shiny, smooth bores and show only very light handling marks. The engraved receiver displays Browning’s traditional scrollwork and retains a crisp, refined appearance. The action is mechanically solid with a tight lock-up, reflecting the legendary durability of Belgian Superposed shotguns.
This example is equipped with a single selectable gold trigger, tang-mounted safety with integrated barrel selector, and automatic ejectors. The stock is a beautiful fancy walnut Prince of Wales grip stock, finely checkered with sharp, well-defined checkering and only very light handling marks. A brown ventilated Browning recoil pad completes the classic presentation.
This shotgun represents an excellent example of a used 1968 Belgian Superposed, exhibiting outstanding condition, strong mechanics, and no salt wood damage evident—a truly desirable piece for the discerning collector or enthusiast.
