Description:
General Specs: Moore’s Patent Fire Arms Co, 1861-1863, .32 Rim Fire, 23oz., Barrel 2 1/2"
Serial Number:  6860

Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer this unique piece of history. This firearm is a Moore’s Patent Fire Arms Co. Belt Revolver, serial number 6860, the frame and cylinder have matching assembly number 29. Moore manufactured about 30,00 guns of all kind between the years 1860 and 1865. Moore’s company was based in Brooklyn New York and is famous for his innovative Civil war period handguns, this revolver is the very first US commercial revolver with a swing-out cylinder (1861-1863). With the hammer in the halfcocked position, the catch located right from the hammer on the recoil shield allows the barrel and cylinder to be swung out to the right for loading SEVEN .32 Rim Fire cartridges. Moore did, however, fall afoul of Smith & Wesson’s Rollin White patent for bored-through cylinders. This infringement caused Moore’s remaining pistols to be handed over to S&W with the barrel now roll stamped mention “Manufd. for Smith & Wesson by Moore’s Pat. Fire Arms Co”. Interestingly, this revolver at some point in its history had its barrel shortened to make it a great hideaway belly or pocket gun, the only vestiges of the S&W roll mark remaining is ‘son’ just before the bead sight. What a story this handgun must have! Historical indeed and a great addition to any Civil War collection! Please review the specifications and photographs bellow. Thanks for looking!
