Description: Antique Colt Single Action.. Here we have a Colt single action revolver.. It is in my favorite shooting caliber 38-40.. It has the sought after 4 3/4” barrel. S/N is 176927 and was made in early 1898 so it is still and antique and no FFL is needed.. The $105 Colt Factory Letter is included and it is all correct and letters all the way with blue finish, rubber grips and 4 3/4” barrel. Shipped March 1898 to Hibbard, Spencer and Bartlett Chicago Ill. 15 gun shipment. The finish is pretty much a no finish gun but still has traces of blue on both side of the front trigger guard bow and just minor traces of case colors on the frame in front of the cylinder were protected. As you can see, the left grip is an earlier original Eagle style grip and the right grip is the original non Eagle style grip.. Don't know if one of the previous owners wanted to decorate the gun with this Eagle grip or the original grip was cracked and just needed a replacement. ?? Both grips fit the gun perfectly and show about the same wear so I think this grip has been on this gun for a long time.. All matching S/N's. Markings are excellent. The action is very crisp and tight with proper timing and all four clicks. This gun has no cylinder front to rear movement or end shake and no side to side wobble on the cylinder pin and bushing. The lock up shows just a tiny bit of cylinder side roll movement but it is absolutely tight enough to shoot with proper black powder loads.. Way tighter than most of these you will find.. This is still a black powder Colt SA.. The front sight has been slightly lowered.. Something I have seen on these in 38-40 caliber a lot.. It still has the correct hammer with the proper knurling and all the hammer notches are perfect and were they should be and very positive.. The screw heads are clean and sharp and not all burred up from tinkering. The bore is excellent for a Colt SA.. Very strong like new rifling with just minor frosting and no pitting. Very hard to find bores this nice on even these later black powder antique Colt SA/s. Nothing fancy here but a nice Colt SA for the money.. These Colt SA have raised quite a bit in price over the years and are still a very good investment.. This one is priced very reasonable because of the grips.. Should not be very hard to find a plain hard rubber grip for this gun and sell the Eagle grip for $200!!! Or just leave it as it is and enjoy it. $50 insured registered mail shipping..
