This Colt Model 1911 Automatic Pistol was Sold to the United States Government in 1918. The legendary M1911 is a semi-automatic magazine-fed pistol chambered in .45ACP. It has a 5" barrel with a 7 round magazine. It has the authentic style two-tone metal magazine It was designed by famous firearm's inventor John Browning after years of development of other various semi-automatic pistols. The 1911 pistol allowed the U.S. forces to quickly reload and was a significant battlefield advantage. Among the areas of success for the Colt was a test at the end of 1910 attended by its designer, John Browning. Six thousand rounds were fired from a single pistol over the course of two days. When the gun began to grow hot, it was simply immersed in water to cool it. The Colt gun passed with no reported malfunctions. Following its success in trials, the Colt pistol was formally adopted by the Army on March 29, 1911, when it was designated "Model of 1911", later changed in 1917 to "Model 1911", and then "M1911" in the mid-1920s.This firearm is a great piece of history hat can be added to your collection today.
