Description: <<< SOLD >>> A well-made small-bore boxlock ejector by McRirick & Sons of Kilmarnock, Scotland—a provincial gunmaker active in the early 20th century. While little survives of the firm’s records, this example is a strong testament to the high quality often found in Scottish guns. Based on the rib inscription, and original proof marks the gun Dates from 1905–1909. This gun was almost certainly built in the Birmingham trade and finished in McRirick’s Kilmarnock workshop. The unsigned action is beautifully preserved, featuring crisp border and acanthus scroll engraving, with one small overbite blemish on the bottom plate that is cosmetic only and does not affect function. It is built with 28" barrels, bearing a 3-Ton Nitro re-proof, and both tubes show excellent wall thickness—.030" and .035" minimum. The bores are clean and bright, with the exception of 4–6 very shallow pits approximately 9" from the muzzle in each bore. Minimum wall thickness was measured at these points and still reads over 30 thou. The barrels ring with a clear tone. Action Mechanics are superb, and the gun opens and closes with the bank-vault feel. The stock is beautifully figured walnut, showing only a 1" scrape on the left side near the head (not a crack), and measures a generous 15 1/8" LOP—a rare find in vintage guns and suitable for many modern shooters. A fast-handling and charming Scottish 20-bore, offering strong value for a diminutive sub-guage field gun.
