Description:
<<<  SOLD  >>> A classy Webley & Scott Best Quality 12-bore boxlock ejector, built on the firm’s highest-grade action and demonstrating that Birmingham’s finest gunmaking could equal the quality of London’s top firms.

The action is fitted with intercepting safety sears, a feature typically reserved for high-grade guns, and incorporates a third-bite fastener built on the Webley & Brain patent screw grip of 1882. Webley & Scott catalogs described these guns as having “extra best quality and finish throughout,” and in 1914 they were priced at £50, compared to just £18 for a Grade 3 Webley action—a substantial premium at the time.

This example shows crisp acanthus scroll engraving and beautifully carved fences.

It is fitted with 30" steel barrels carrying a 1 1/8 oz. Nitro proof and showing excellent wall thickness, both bores measuring a minimum of 30 thou. The barrels ring with a clear, sustained tone, and the bores remain clean and bright.

The stock exhibits beautiful, high-contrast figuring, with a very usable 14 11/16" length of pull, and is finished with a checkered butt.

Mechanically, the gun is excellent. The action is tight, both barrels are on face, and operation is smooth and precise, with a very solid feel.

A Best Quality boxlock from Birmingham’s most well-known firm.
