Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are tres proud to offer this fine example of the other kind of double barrel shotgun, the Darne. We all know the French do things differently, and this scattergun is no exception. The action opens by lifting the “wings” at the rear of the action, resulting in the standing breach sliding rearward on a rail, exposing the shells. Live rounds stay in the action, spent rounds tumble out. It is very functional, and produces a tight lockup. The added steel aft of the barrels also gives a large canvas for the engraver, and some of these guns are spectacular. This particular gun is nicely engraved, and made in the year of our Lord 1906. The “crown over PT” proof mark came into use around 1900. The peculiar grade markings often found on the barrel flats appeared around 1908. This gun bears what appears to be two serial numbers, 25618 and 17451. I believe the latter dates the gun, but the other is stamped in various locations, as pictured. She is in good shape for being 120 years old. The blue is fairly strong, the nicely figured and finely checkered walnut looks great, and the icing on the cake is the well defined engraving. The bores of the 25 ½ inch, or 65 centimeter barrels, are very bright, choked improved cylinder and modified. She is a 16 gauge, always good to find. Drops are 1 3/4 and 2 5/8 inches. LOP is 14 1/8 inches.  Followers of this marque tout the light weight of a Darne, and this one tips the scales at just under 5 ½ pounds. That would be great for a 20 gauge. If you have been looking for the right Darne to collect, for investment, or a fast handling bird gun, then look no further.
