Description:
Wyoming gunsmith Lenard Brownell's rifles from this period were known primarily for precision-fitted craftsmanship rather than exotic beauty, and this bench varminter in .219 Donaldson Wasp has plenty of that. An undisputed legend of contemporary firearm design and stock-making, Brownell was instrumental in the creation and evolution of the Ruger No. 1 and Ruger 77 rifles. His stock-making expertise was also drawn upon by other major gunmakers, including Kimber. This exhibit of pure functional craftsmanship is an example of Brownell's ultra-accurate varminters. The raised-cheekpiece, 13.5" LOP thumbhole stock is characteristic of Brownell's early "fat stock" varmint rifles produced from 1948-1953. It has Brownell's custom gunstock features, down to the L.M. Brownell Custom Gunstocks butt pad. Its impressive 30"L, 1"-dia. stainless barrel is precision-bedded. The J.W. Fecker 12x fine-crosshair target scope has micrometer-adjustable mounts, and is late 1940's-vintage. The receiver is a 1941 G.24t Czech Mauser. Jeweled bolt and bolt-release lever. Some minor wear marks on the stock. Bore is bright. Set trigger. Weight: 17.15 lbs.
