Description: This beautiful Kornbrath engraved Mauser Sporter, built in 1936 only 13 years after our company's founding in 1923 marries the functionality of the military Mauser 98 action with the beauty of American craftsmanship. This rifle is fitted with the traditional Griffin & Howe accoutrement's, such as a Lyman peep sight, ramped front sight, barrel band sling swivel and finally the Griffin & Howe side rail scope mount. Another notable feature of this rifle is the star that has been stamped into the crown of the muzzle. As we have always strived for perfection, finding the perfect barrel has been a continuous problem throughout the years, and as such we were often creative with our sources. This barrel started its life as a "Star Gauged" barrel originally intended for a 1903 Springfield rifle. The "Star Gauged" barrels were the very best that the Government arsenal barrel makers could make and were therefore sought after for their quality. These quality components were then expertly fitted together and combined with one of our hand carved and often bespoke stocks, which have often served as the basic outline for many American sporting stocks. Such a legacy of craftsmanship is not something often found today, and to find surviving examples of original work nearly a century later is none too common either.
