This is a little-used carbine that has retained 85-90% of the original blue finish along the barrel, with silvering and mild fading to gray and plum-brown on the balance. The two-piece frame and hammer likewise have a commensurate amount of their original bright color case-hardening remaining, with the stock ferrule and action locking spring retaining about 60-70% of the original bright fire bluing. The walnut forend and buttstock are about very good shape, with numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about the original military oil finish, and a crisp cartouche on the left side of the wrist. The buttplate has a mostly dark brown patina, with a brighter cleaned area at the heel. This is a fine example of a Smith Cavalry Carbine, and would make a great addition to any collection of US Civil War long arms. Antique; Price: $2,695.00 Antique: Yes |
