The metal has a dark brown patina with some areas of light pitting. The stock has been refinished. This is an interesting gun and possibly one of the last of the guns issued to the 1st US Sharp Shooters or otherwise known as a Berdan Sharps. It falls on the tail end of the serial range and it has the inspector “TWR" on the barrel. This inspector also did Berdan Sharps, but this is not completely an identifier as it being issued to a Berdan unit. The interior of the patch box also has the punch mark associated with John Taylor as the final acceptance. What this gun does not have is the double set triggers and no evidence of the “JT" cartouche in the stock due to the refinishing. There are late guns like this that are accepted Berdan Sharps that do not have Double Set Triggers. In any case, this is a very neat piece and we feel has a real chance of being proven to be a Berdan Sharps. Price: $3,750.00 Antique: Yes |
