It is a .36 caliber percussion, walnut grips, blued and case-hardened finish, brass trigger guard and back strap and grip strap, single action revolver. These Colt’s 36 caliber revolvers were referred to “Navy” models. CONDITION: The condition of this revolver is good+. The overall condition is somewhat worn and the screw heads showing some turn wear. The Mexican-Texas naval scene on the cylinder is mostly worn away with some of the sea, parts of the vessels and the legend “Engagement 16 May 1843” mostly visible. The Colt’s address legend is strong with the gun having an even brown/gray patina. The grips may not be original to the gun although even on the underside of the grip frame they are smaller than the back strap. Although this may be from shrinkage, they have obviously been on the gun for a long time. There is a brass oval plate on the right side of the walnut grip. Looking at the plate under 10X magnification no engraving could be detects on it. The brass grip frame and trigger guard have a mellow uncleaned patina. All serial numbers match and the revolver works correctly. The gun is tight but can easily be disassembled by withdrawing the wedge key. The wedge is missing the wedge spring but is friction tight to the slot. The action is very crisp and tight with strong hammer spring and solid lock up at half cock and full cock, with no wobble. With each cocking of the hammer the cylinder indexes perfectly. Loading lever latch snaps into place very strongly. This is a Colt's revolver serial number dates it to being manufactured in 1862, right in the middle of the Civil War. Undoubtedly, it had some use during that conflict. The overall condition of this Colt has an even un-messed with look. This is an antique gun and can ship directly to the buyer. This is a consignment gun, the owner stated that his father had a Civil War gun collection which this was a part of.
