The Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 is a lightweight semi automatic rifle chambered in .22 Long Rifle and designed to replicate the controls and ergonomics of a standard AR-15 platform. Unlike many rimfire AR style rifles, the M&P 15-22 is purpose built as a dedicated .22LR system rather than a conversion, resulting in improved reliability with rimfire ammunition. The rifle features a polymer upper and lower receiver to reduce weight while maintaining durability. It includes a 16 inch barrel, threaded muzzle with flash suppressor, adjustable AR style stock, and a full length top Picatinny rail for optics. The rifle typically comes with Magpul MBUS style folding sights and uses proprietary detachable magazines. Standard capacity magazines hold 25 rounds of .22LR. The M&P 15-22 is widely used for training, recreational shooting, and introducing new shooters to the AR platform due to its low recoil and inexpensive ammunition.
