Description:

Synopsis:

Beautiful, ORIGINAL finish Waffenfabrik Bern Model 1878 Swiss Military Revolver with all matching parts, near-mirror bore, and correct manual mechanics. A wonderful example that would be difficult to upgrade. ANTIQUE!

Description:

Standard configuration Waffenfabrik Bern Model 1878 Swiss Military revolver, produced circa 1878-1880, this all-matching example with SN: 1943, cal. 10.4mm, with 6" barrel, fixed bead profile front sight and notched rear sight. Left side of frame serialized "1943" above "WAFFENFABRIK BERN", the SN repeated on the left side of the octagonal barrel and on the 6-shot cylinder, last few digits on the cylinder axle, ejector rod, and the trigger. Most parts with the added assembly number "1269". Fitted with checkered black hard rubber grips, the right panel scribed with the matching SN. Rotating lanyard ring mounted at the base of the grip frame. The Model 1878 revolver was the first Swiss-made revolver used by the Swiss military, largely issued to cavalry units, made with a rebounding hammer modified by Lieutenant-Colonel Rudolf Schmidt.

Condition:

VG+ original condition rust blue finish with sharp edge / cylinder band wear and light toning of the front and back straps as one would expect from a military revolver that was largely holstered during its service life. Strawed parts in the same general condition as revolver, no suggestion of enhancement, as are both of the crisply checkered rubber hard rubber grips, the right panel missing a few tiny chips near the head of the sideplate screw. Near mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. ANTIQUE!
