Description:
Fine Vintage Pre-WWII J.P. Sauer German 12 GA SXS Shotgun
Offered here for sale and just acquired is one of our favorite of German armsmakers- J.P. Sauer who made this fine Pre-War 12 GA  side by side shotgun in 1942.
This J.P.Sauer & Sohn–Suhl 12 gauge side by side (serial no. 341601) is almost certainly a pre World War II production piece, likely made circa 1941–42, based on the serial range and proof marks. nitro proof eagle — used from the mid 1930s through 1945. It denotes the gun passed Suhl’s German proof testing under the 1939 proof law. The “12/70 mm” marking confirms 12 gauge with a 70 mm (2¾") chamber, standard for post 1939 Sauer guns. Pre 1930s examples often bear “12/65.”
The engraved receiver and double triggers are typical of Sauer boxlocks of that period, particularly the Anson & Deeley type action used on the Habicht and other field grade models.
A summary of features:

FeatureDescriptionManufacturerJ.P.Sauer & Sohn, Suhl, Germany
Serial No.341601
Likely YearCirca 1942
Gauge12 ga / 70 mm (2 ¾")
ActionAnson & Deeley boxlock, double triggers
Chokes Cylinder / Cylinder
Proof:Suhl nitro proof, eagle stamp (pre WWII)
This specimen has seen only light use and retains just about all original blue on barrels save for some wear in one spot near left barrel muzzle end. The receiver retails large majority of case colors fading in spots but all there. The bores are very fine with no spots. The action locks up tightly. The wood shows only very light use marks. Markings sharp. We have approximated the weight of the gun at 6 lbs 9 ounces. A check of similar pre war guns from sources estimate about 6.5 pounds on average. Pre war guns were very light.
