Description:
This is a rare M1854 Beaumont - Adams Revolver made by Reilly of London and sold to/or made for the London Armory Co. The LAC is also known as the Armory of the Confederacy. The revolver is in overall exceptionally nice condition. There are still areas of bluing on the revolver while other parts are a smooth plum brown. The checkered grips are excellent. The bore still displays rifling, has some roughness and is fairly clean. This is an uncommonly found 80 bore or about a .40 caliber possibly intended for naval use? . The revolver is complete and all original. The revolver works in single and double action. The barrel is about 5 ¾” long and overall the revolver measures about 12 ¾”. London proofs appear on the cylinder and the rear of the barrel. The top strap is engraved” REILLY 502 NEW OXFORD STt LONDON”. The serial number on the cylinder is “25099 R”. The right side of the frame is marked “ADAMS PATENT NO 25099 R” The “R” of course indicates that Reilly is the maker. Above that is the number “B 9429”. This number was put on to keep track of the royalties due to Beaumont. The London Armory Co. trademark “ L A / C” appears at the back of the barrel assembly. The only downside to the condition of the revolver is that 2 of the nipples are chipped and this is shown in a picture. Peter Dyson of England sells replacements for Adams and Tranter revolvers. Sometimes they appear on Ebay. Dixie Gunworks offers a wide variety of nipples. It just requires figuring out which one will work. Of course if you are not shooting it, it is a fine displaying Civil War revolver with Southern association.
