Payment Types Accepted: Personal Check or Money Order Description: Winchester Pigeon Grade Model 1911 SL Factory Engraved by Angelo Stokes – Documented by Pauline Muerrle Exceptional and rarely encountered factory-engraved Winchester Model 1911 Self-Loading Shotgun, serial number 53862, executed by Winchester factory engraver Angelo Stokes in the early 1900s. Accompanied by a signed letter from noted Winchester historian and authenticator Pauline Muerrle confirming factory engraving and attributing the work to Stokes. The receiver is extensively engraved in a classic early 20th-century Winchester sporting motif, featuring finely executed American scrollwork with Greek key borders framing detailed game scenes. The right side depicts upland birds in flight over a lightly shaded landscape; the left side presents waterfowl in a marsh setting alongside a pointing dog rendered in Stokes’ characteristic style. Scrollwork terminates cleanly at panel edges and flows naturally around the ejection port geometry, consistent with factory sequencing and period engraving practices. Background punchwork and scene composition are fully in keeping with Winchester shop standards of the era. The shotgun is fitted with a 26-inch barrel with factory matted rib and marked CYL for cylinder choke. The stock features a black diamond wrist inlay, consistent with higher-grade Winchester configurations of the period. The walnut stock and forearm are original to the gun and have been refinished at some point, retaining correct contours and configuration. Metal finish shows honest age and handling wear, with engraving remaining crisp and well defined. Factory-engraved Model 1911 shotguns are seldom encountered; examples attributed to a named Winchester engraver are exceptionally scarce. The Model 1911 was not widely ordered in high-grade form, and surviving documented engraved specimens represent a very small subset of production. This example stands as a documented, factory-engraved Winchester Model 1911 attributed to Angelo Stokes, representing one of the more significant and desirable variants of the model to appear on the market. Accompanied by a signed letter from Pauline Muerrle confirming factory engraving and engraver attribution. There is a wrist crack that remains solid. The last photo image is the only example I could find in any Winchester book. When I took the gun down the bolt spring jumped across the room. There was no guide or plunger follower. I've located a plunger follower and am looking for a guide. Price: $4,750.00 Curio/Relic: Yes Shotgun Gauge: 12 Gauge Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1911 SL Barrel Length: 26' |
