Description:
SOLD! Colt Model 1860 Army, manufactured in 1862, and chambered in .44 caliber. This is a solid and fully functioning action and matching-numbers example of the iconic Civil War–era percussion revolver. It retains a very honest, untouched antique appearance with desirable patina and clearly legible markings.
Barrel:
The 8-inch barrel shows a very nice, even brown patina across its exterior. There are scattered patches of light rusting noted on the right side, consistent with long-term, unaltered storage. The bore is semi-bright with clearly visible rifling, showing typical age-related wear but no major defects.
Cylinder:
The cylinder displays some finish loss throughout. The Colt patent stamp and serial numberremain clearly visible. The naval engagement scene is somewhat faded, but still visibly present. There are scattered spots of light rusting and the cylinder bores are semi-bright with some discoloration—overall very respectable for a Civil War–era antique.
Frame:
The frame exhibits near-complete finish loss, with scattered light pitting across both sides. Despite this, the Colt’s Patent stamp on the left side is clean and readable. Metal surfaces show the correct, untouched aged appearance expected from an original 1860s service revolver.
Trigger Guard & Grips:
The brass trigger guard retains a very attractive aged color, with some expected dulling but no heavy damage. The grips show typical wear from use and handling. The left grip panel has a small chip in the lower left corner that has been smoothed over with time, blending well with the revolver’s overall patina.
Additional Notes:
All serial numbers are matching, including barrel, frame, cylinder, and grip strap—an increasingly hard-to-find trait on these early war-production Colt Armies. The revolver rates in NRA Antique Good to Very Good condition, presenting as a well-preserved, fully original, and highly collectible example.
A great opportunity for collectors of Civil War firearms, antique Colts, or early American martial revolvers.
