This is a very attractive pistol that has traces of blue remaining on the barrel cluster, which has developed an otherwise faintly mottled gray and plum-brown patina on the balance. The hammer and trigger guard are engraved, with a dark blue-gray patina on the former, and a good amount of bright original blue on the latter. The cylindrical nickel frame has extensive decorative scrollwork engraving, with "IMPROVED / REVOLVING PISTOL" on the right side, and "T. WILSON & CO. / LIVERPOOL" on the left. The bag-shaped walnut grips are in fine shape and have some minor handling marks scattered about the nicely figured wood on either side. A few shallow impact marks are also present on the right panel, just above the floral motif screw escutcheon. The action is fully functional, and the barrels rotate smartly. Thomas Wilson was a London gunmaker who was active in the mid-19th century with shops in both London and Liverpool. This example of his work is in fine condition and would make a splendid addition to any collection. Antique; Price: $2,995.00 Antique: Yes |
