The Browning Auto-5 Super Lightweight is a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun built on the long-recoil operating system. This 1966 production model features an aluminum receiver and a walnut stock, designed to reduce overall weight compared to standard steel-receiver variants. It is configured with a 25.5-inch barrel and a standard magazine capacity of five rounds. The lightweight alloy construction and classic Browning A5 profile distinguish it from other Browning semi-automatic shotguns of the same era.
The barrel is fitted with an Improved Modified choke and measures approximately 25.5 inches in length. The stock provides a 14-inch length of pull, consistent with mid-century Browning field configurations. The long-recoil action is characteristic of the Auto-5 design, cycling both barrel and bolt during operation. The aluminum receiver and walnut furniture combine functional durability with reduced mass, making the Super Lightweight variant notably different from the traditional steel-framed A5 models produced for the U.S. market.
Manufactured in 1966, this shotgun represents Browning’s lighter European configuration, sometimes referred to as the “Superleggero.” The receiver is aluminum, while the stock and forearm are walnut. The firearm is chambered for 12-gauge shells and configured for a five-round capacity.
These shotguns are always imported (unless someone carried it from Europe such as a Military Member) so as such it has a well-done import stamp above the magazine cap.
