Description:
Here is an antique original length fullstock longrifle with a "roman nose" comb profile that was possibly made in Reading / Berks County, PA. The incise decorated forestock has a single line terminating into a squiggly. The wood is plain maple but has what looks like much of the original dark finish remaining. The octogon barrel is uncut original length measuring 35 3/8" x 1". It is held to the stock with 3 wedges. The bore looks like .45 with deep 8 groove rifling. The sights are both dovetailed, the front having a German silver blade & base. The dark brown finish on the barrel is nice & smooth without surface rust. The percussion lock is strong & completely unmarked but looks to be original, so it's possible it was made by the gun builder. The adjustable double set triggers work very well. The ramrod pipes are brass & round with an incised line on each end. The tapered hickory ramrod measures 34.5" long & looks original. The smaller threaded end is broken off at the threads. The unengraved patchbox looks like german silver & will need restoration. Two pieces of the sideplate are missing with partial replacement pieces in place. Also, the release button, which is on the toeplate, doesn't go back to position after releasing the patchbox door. So, the spring will need to be fixed. There is a piece of wood that is cracked just behind the lock that could be easily repaired to be almost invisible. Other than these things the rifle is in very nice condition with a few small dings here & there. The drum, nipple & cleanout screw are in very good condition & there is very little burnout behind the nipple. I could only include 15 photos but have many more. If you need a pic of anything not shown just let me know. Shipping is $50
