Description: Percussion half-stock plains rifle with 37 3/4" octagon barrel and a .45 caliber bore. The rifle features walnut stocks with brass furniture icluding brass patchbox and crescent buttplate. The endcap is lead. The lock is engraved with floral designs, a hunt scene showing a man with a rifle, and a banner with the initials R.B. The rifle has a set trigger. The overall condition is fair. The gun is no longer mechanically functioning. The hammer does not stay cocked indicating internal damage or wear. The stock has been repaired on the right side near the lock plate with a wood graft. The barrel has an even brown patina consistent with age. Pitting is visible on the lock and hammer. The patchbox latch is missing and has been improvised with a small tack to hold the door closed. The cresecnet buttplate has been modified indicating a potenital period repair. The underside of the barrel shows signs of the barrel bands having been moved, or the possibility that the barrel was not original to the rifle and "made to fit." There is a build up of glue near the breech end. The barrel has not been removed to inspect why the need for glue. The rifle is decorated with various German silver inlays, the most notable being a fish, and a shield. It is unknown when the inlays were added but appear to be during period of use idicated by inlays that are missing or contain missing pieces. Manufactured circa 1850.
