Description:
Well marked DALTON on the lock as well as DALTON DUBLIN on the top of the barrel, Irish proofs on left breech. Edward Dalton worked from 1772-1781. Certainly during the period of the American Revolutionary War. Breech has unlined touch hole engraved en suite to chamfered lock w/ slightly rebated pointed tail. Beveled flat serpentine cock & bridled roller frizzen, frizzen spring has flared finial. Trigger guard has engraved flower on bow, & stylized acorn finial. European walnut stock has flattened bag grip attached to the barrel with 2 keys, flat on the sides of the grip. Wood is solid with some handling marks and some spliced repairs along the barrel line, there is a crack under the lock going to the triggerguard that is solid, also looks like it's got a glued crack by the rear ramrod ferrule. 9 inch octagon barrel. Roughly 14 1/2 inches long overall. Wood ramrod has horn tip & tail has worm. Metal retains a pleasing patina overall. Lock is in good working order. Approximately .60 caliber smoothbore.
