The Remington 40X was born in the 1950s when benchrest shooting was going from weekend hobby to serious competition, and Remington built something that could win matches straight from the factory. The 40X wasn't about flashy features – it was about getting the fundamentals right. Every part was built tighter than Remington's hunting rifles. Remington called it "the most accurate production rifle ever made" in 1955. The 40X became the foundation for countless custom builds. Gunsmiths would start with a 40X action and build world-class competition rifles around it. That robust bolt design and smooth cycling made it a favorite platform that's still respected today.
