Description:
***   REDUCED   ***   CONDITION * CONDITION * CONDITION – Very handsome and great handling Boss12 bore back action hammergun with rebounding hammers and peninsula style locks. Serial number 3794 was made in 1884 featuring the desirable sidelever opening which allows the action to be opened even when the hammers are cocked. Very highly figured nitro Damascus barrels chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells. Beautifully figured French walnut stock and splinter forearm. Sumner-engraved action and lock plates with residual case coloring. “Boss & Co.” engraved on the lock plates. Because of the sidelever opener the entire top strap and fences are available as an enlarged engraving canvas where Mr. Sumner’s engraving skills are displayed at the highest level. No. 2 of a pair. Presented in its leather case with maker’s label, snap caps, oil bottle, 2-piece mahogany cleaning rod, tool heads, and keys. In very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. Weighs 7lb 1oz. You will be proud to uncase this rare beauty at the range or for a day afield.

The original 30” nitro Damascus barrels have been re-chambered and reproved for 70mm(2-3/4”) cartridges. They are topped by a raised solid tapered concave rib which is inscribed “Boss & Co. 73 St. James’s Street. London”. The right barrel is bored 0.735 with a constriction of 0.007 for a light Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.030. The left barrel is bored 0.737 and has a constriction of 0.016 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.026.

The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured French walnut with a hand rubbed satin oil finish and crisp checkering. The forearm has an engraved pendulum opening lever and there is an engraved crest depicting an eagle or perhaps a falcon on the initial plate on the bottom of the stock. Stock dimensions are 15-1/16” including a 7/8” silver style pad by 1-1/2” by 2-1/4”. Cast off for the righthand shot.
