Payment Types Accepted: Checks, Money Orders or Credit Card with Service Fee Description: *** Price Reduced from $2795 *** The members of our society that shudder and pee a little at the sight of an Armalite Rifle may soil their panties at the sight of this rifle. On the other hand, it may not be frightening to them as it looks like a Base Mandolin. In either event, I think not many of us are concerned about their feelings. This rifle is a beautiful example of a German c.1920s Schuetzen rifle. Schutzenfests may have been the most popular sport at that time. Complete villages were built and shooting halls with 200 yard indoor ranges were built for the festival. This rifle uses the popular System Aydt falling block action. It is profusely engraved and carved as the photos show. The intricacies of the design are hard to describe. I can say that awkward as it looks, its features make it possible to hold steady for 200 Yd. standing unsupported target work. Repeatable check welds and grip are assisted by the exaggerated features. The bore is excellent and the action is tight and shows little wear. There are no makers name or serial numbers visible, only a Crown / “B” and Crown / “U” proof marks. It may be marked on the action when it’s removed from the bottom. It’s a new mechanism to me so I have not dropped it out. The sights are original to the rifle and very substantial. They are often lost because they are commonly carried separate from the rifle. There is an interesting Brass Tag attached to the butt of the rifle. The tag reads: “SCHREIBMASCHINE SCHRECK”. This refers to an office machine retailer in Hannover Germany. They may have sold target rifles and SCRECK may have been the owner or shooter. “SCHRECK” is stamped on the R. side of the buttstock and forearm near the receiver. There is a snap-on rest pad that is also marked “SCHRECK”. I’m sure this rest pad was a common accessory of the time, but most have been lost. I believe it would be used to bench rest sight in various loads before a match. This is a beautiful example of a rifle used in a long-lost sport that would be a crowd pleaser at any American range today. It will ship in a custom-made fiberglass rifle case made to accommodate the bulges and bumps. The custom case will be packed in conventional cardboard boxes. 8.15 x 46R with a 32” barrel.
