Offered by Peterson Collective is a pre-war Greifelt & Suhl No. 1 over/under shotgun chambered in 20 gauge, representing a superb example of traditional German Suhl guild craftsmanship. Manufactured circa 1930s, this finely built upland shotgun reflects the peak era of pre-war European gunmaking, where each firearm was individually fitted, finished, and often enhanced with engraving and exhibition-grade wood for discerning sporting clients. This example features factory-applied game scene engraving, adding a level of artistic refinement well beyond standard field production guns of the period.
The shotgun is fitted with 26 1/8” solid rib barrels, offering excellent balance and fast handling characteristics ideal for upland bird hunting and instinctive shooting. The barrels exhibit bright, shiny bores with strong internal condition throughout. Choke configuration is fixed at Modified and Improved Cylinder, providing a highly effective and versatile pattern spread for close to mid-range upland work, consistent with traditional European field gun design.
Stocked in fancy exhibition-grade walnut, this example displays attractive figure and depth throughout both the buttstock and forearm. It is configured with a round knob, long tang stock profile, a classic Germanic design known for its elegant lines and excellent pointability.
